The choice of vehicle depends on the parameters of the drive when (and if) it comes to fruition. The need for an off-road biased vehicle may be less necessary than it was in 1965 but this still offers the best opportunity to enjoy the wilder parts of the world and would still be my first choice.

 The Toyota Land Cruiser also served Sarah well on her last two trips and whilst her vehicle had been modified and equipped for remote terrain and extremes of temperature with meticulous attention to detail most standard vehicles are more than capable of attaining the goal.

Whatever the ultimate choice of vehicle it will be equipped not only as transport, but home and ultimately ‘life support’ for the duration of the journey. 

 

Additions as heated fuel lines and preheat systems ensure easy running in cold climates whilst a raised air intake and breather pipes aid the engine in hot, dusty climates and through rivers. Off-road tyres provide maximum traction run flat inserts increase 'survivability' beyond measure.

All equipment and modifications, from the stove to the suspension, are selected for durability, reliability and, in the case of cargo, their weight and size.
